Not to push you on this I'm just trying to feed the discussion here and further my point about psychological balance as I understand it. Among the things humans need without necessarily feeling a conscious yearning for it like thirst or hunger, there is the need to belong which is reached by giving more than receiving and I say this from experience. I don't need to remind you guys how the anonymous/chan community was always carried by the voluntary participation of its members, be it in the form of OC, raids, flaming, DDoS among other things.
The modern conception of family leaves a bad taste in my mouth because it is presented through an individualistic lense which, when we think about it, is nonsensical. Having a family is more about providing, nurturing, sacrificing and protecting than eating homecooked meals or having a stinky biodegradable alarm that crawls on the bed to wake us up on weekends, although this exchange makes it last. It's more about building a balanced relationship of respect and benevolence with an underlying power dynamic which integrates each party's temperament and emotions where intimacy is a means and not the end, as opposed to a tinder encounter or anything promoted by the modern hookup culture.
Similarly to gardening or building a village in Animal Crossing, it isn't the contact with plants or the plastic of the controller that has soothing effect but the activity of developping something and taking care of it. Mental functions like empathy, creativity, competitivity, generosity etc are built into us and need to be exercised regularly to keep us in shape the same way we need to walk, run and swim. And raising a family is literally the most comprehensive exercise for that.
But if it's not for you I really hope you find a fitting substitute
