That's disappointing. Has it to do with Tomino's autism?

I am sorry to write something like this in a somewhat sister board, but we are actively trying to bring the 4chan /m/ refugees in there:

https://8chan.moe/m/

Stealing users from other boards is vile but I believe that the less we split the less we risk of dying out in this hard times
Please take a look, contribute if something is missing and reach out to other sites!

Enjoying the show, but... Char piloting the Gundam feels... dirty. Wrong.

And who was the Guncannon pilot? Was it Ryu? Amuro? Who? It's strange how deliberately they avoided telling us the fate of the White Base crew. The only one with a face who I remember dying was Captain Paolo.
Replies: >>955

There are no dead bodies around, so most civilians probably had already evacuated. Perhaps it was a no name soldier.

I'm really hoping we see something of them. There's always been a lot of focus on Char, but people care about the White Base crew just as much

Let's start with a catch all.

Space Runaway Ideon / Densetsu Kyojin Ideon frustrated me a bit with its Tomino flair -instead of accustoming to it and to that of other renown directors I just think back to how good Yamato was- but the show and characters settle into place soon enough and it seems to be smooth sailing/suffering down the line, I'm just getting started (past the first 1/4th).

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch a.k.a. Jibun Wo - I should have watched ten years ago, and it's a guilty ride for me. It doesn't make me sperg out but it's been a while without a shonen-like dose. I almost don't feel like finishing it.

I’m not sure I don't even know what the chapter count in Japan was, though it's listed as only having a total of three volumes. You might have to check if there’s online listings for the publications by release and see what chapter they stopped at. The Spanish version was by “Planeta DeAgostini” and the Italian one by Panini Comics’ “Planet Manga”.
Replies: >>650
>>649
i think the spaniard version was divided in 8 volumes instead of the 3 from Japan
Replies: >>651
>>650
I'd make a guess that maybe it was 24 chapters or something. The Japanese publisher released monthly from what it sounds like, and ran from sometime like 1993 to somewhere in 1995. Maybe Europe got the whole thing?
I've started Dunbine.

Geats seems to be the reiwa Gaim, though I have yet to watch it myself.

But Gavv is proving to be great fun, and I would reccommend giving it a watch.

We need an actual thread for this, judging by the "post an image" thread there are too many people coming here and not actually engaging in any conversations.
A random question I'll use to start it off: what's your favourite robot that's not from Gundam?

Are Bionicles mecha?
Kind of, but not really. Mecha is usually about something that is piloted by humans, while Bionicles have mind of their own.

Transformers something something, whatever, it's western.

Hello /mecha/, I am a representative of the "Elect President Biden for 2024" campaign. I have come to your humble site to ask for your support. If you are not aware, President Biden announced during the CNN(TM) presidential debate on 6/26 that he will provide his voters with their own /clang/ girl if elected. Can we count on your support to help his campaign and win this election?

What are some good examples of mecha and toku content made outside Japan? I know that mecha is generally considered an exclusively Japanese phenomenon because of its roots in animistic religion and World War II era myths like "samurai spirit". That said, a lot of Japanese pop culture is almost heavily influenced by western science fiction, especially stuff like Starship Troopers and the Blade Runner movie, so mecha is more like blend of different concepts than anything unique to Japan.
"Tokusatsu" (特撮), often shortened to just "Toku" in the west, is the Japanese catchall term for any live-action sci-fi/fantasy media that makes use of special effectsnote "Tokusatsu" is an abbreviation of coming from "tokushu satsuei", which literally means "special photography".

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Toku

Hm, I can't think of any "giant human-like robots" content outside of japan, but if we go for just science fiction or just tank / ship / airplane / war movies, examples are many.

Power Rangers is a famous example of western cashgrab that used footage of japanese sentai shows. If you are too lazy to actually watch the entire thing, Linkara made a good series of reviews of it, you can watch it here, reposted by a kind man Tom W 8 years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX43F7XLEDE&list=PL82b8UkjiO8VnU8kVFLFE-lXMfn6ZECQm . Not from the very first part, don't ask me where to find it in full, I don't know.

Can we lay aside all the bullshit symbolism and waifu slapfighting to talk about some Eva robots? Say what you will about this show, the plot was nonsensical and depressing and the characters were obnoxious, but man, if you wanted to watch a bunch of robots beat the living crap out of some space aliens, this show was the shit.

I don't think he intended it to be appealing. He's like the liberal writers who make the bad guys way better than the good. It's accidental. He finally fixed his shit with Mari and did it right.

As bad as it is, Rei and Asuka were never treated as throwaway fanservice trash that every anime and waifu over the last decade is.
