Post suggestions to improve the board if you have any. Also a thread for questions or posts that don't need their own thread. Keep it tangentially /animu/ related and ignore people who complain about other boards or bring board drama here. Beyond that, archive everything you care about. You never know when /animu/ servers will be vore'd by a giant Miku Risa.

After an arduous four years, it's time for a brand new rabbit rabbit thread!

When you wake up on the 1st of the month, if the first thing you say out loud is "rabbit rabbit rabbit", you'll be blessed with good luck for a month!

Every day it feels like things get crazier and crazier. But even when things seem dire, it won't do any good to let yourself get swept away by the chaos just because it's the path of least resistance. So while we're still on this wild rollercoaster of a lifetime, don't forget to take a moment to unwind and appreciate the little things, alright?

Well, for starters, while powerful, Tanya isn't god level like Overlord. She constantly thinks:
>how do I win this war, or secure a cozy job FAR away from the front lines, holy shit, I don't want to die
The main two conflicts are her refusing to acknowledge the god that resurrected her and gave her decent magic powers in this world, and her struggling to put herself in a position to finally fuck off from the front lines.
And this leads to funny scenarios where she comes up with clever ways to win a conflict, the higher ups acknowledge that and then deploy her to do even more dangerous and difficult missions, since she already proved she can do that.
In this season there were peace talks between not-Italy and not-Germany, and she tried to show the Italian observer that she and her troops are normal people, just like them, so that the peace talks go faster. Well, for all her strategic prowess, she's socially retarded and made the Italian think the German army is full of schizos loyal to the country to the extreme, and it had the complete opposite effect.
Or her and her troops being on the eastern front and having shit resources. So when the HQ decides to allocate them more stuff, she and her second in command are ecstatic over coffee and fresh clean socks.
I think making an episode dedicated to the simple joy of decent coffee and good socks is pretty down to eart

In another life. Now he's just an evil monster. They even discuss in the light novels how he no longer feels human emotions. The art of writing interesting evil characters is to give them a touch of humanity, motivation, character development, etc.

The autistic motivation of wanting to somehow honor his old guild by making his organization the most powerful (which it clearly already is from the beginning of the narrative) wears off by the end of the first season. Maybe if they put more effort into flashbacks or something, humanize him, help the viewer relate to why he so desperately wants to make Nazarick the best. Perhaps at some point they could even have him explain this motivation to another character and facilitate some kind of actual character development. But they don't do any of that. Pure psychopaths aren't very interesting or unrelatable.

I mostly saved pages from the official version because of its slightly better image quality, though I read the scanlation. I finished it.

To be honest, it was good, but the anime was better. When e.g. Chikane confesses her lustful feelings, that's about 4 pages in the manga, while in the anime it's 3 minutes of good acting and well-written dialogue. The manga build up and delivery fall flat, while the anime is the opposite, and the manga ramps up at the same pace from start to end. But then again, you can do both the manga and anime. The manga can be read in 1-2 hours, it's very short, the anime is an entire 12-episode TV season.

Describing it too much would spoil it because it's so short, but it's a yuri manga with mechas and rape.

Time for yet another of these threads. I've changed the title slightly to fit how they're used nowadays, but it should be the same otherwise. The previous thread is archived at https://archive.ph/Qh8mc

While digging around for train anime, I stumbled across Mushiba Tetsudou in a MAL list of all places. The description sounded like some kind of weird toothbrushing PSA, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was one, but "mechanical biological train" caught my eye and I knew I had to see this.
So what the hell is this shit? It's a 9 minute short about some kid on a mecha steam train that gargles toothpaste and blasts it at cavity people, which turns them into either regular humans or cavity coal to fuel its furnace. There's a bit of a plot which isn't really worth talking or caring about, mostly CG characters and machinery over 2D backgrounds, and some cool environments in Cavity Town. Really, there isn't a whole lot to say about it beyond that it looks nice, nicer than it had to be, and nice enough to go on the rail anime chart.
It's also directed by the guy who's directing that godawful CG Trigun show.

Like another anon said I think the lack of moralizing about how dystopic it is is kind of the point. One of the earliest episodes deals with interceptors which quite literally allow law enforcement or whoever to surveil someone via their own eyes, and when the technology becomes public there is an initial backlash but it just kind of falls to the wayside. Psycho Pass is very similar in this regard.

The currently airing GITS series is far more overt about how shitty life is. Lots of corruption and crime on display, and being a direct adaption of the manga written during the heydey of the cyberpunk era it has a more gritty aesthetic. SAC on the other hand feels more like an extrapolation based on the current culture, with more powerful (and invasive) technology. The corruption and crime is still there, but it's business as usual and you still have to go to work. I enjoy both portrayals.
Replies: >>116466
>>116457
>Psycho Pass is very similar in this regard.
I don't remember Psycho Pass like that. It's atmosphere and presentation of the world felt more in line with how sad it is. But with GITSes every time I felt a slight disjoint between how evil the scenario presented is, and the way its presented.
Putting aside the naivete of focusing more on small time criminals and revolutionaries instead of giga corpos and governments.
I think I wouldn't feel that if GITSes also showed more laidback or casual things happening in this world. The people don't seem THAT depressed, so it'd be good to show them leading normal lives. More Togusa with his wife or something, and not

>>116434
I think those little realization scenes would take place right before the proper dystopian setting takes a hold. IIRC certain scenes from Platonic Chain (>>91805) did have those scenes. It did seem like that show took place slightly before a cyberpunk setting.
>>116433
Assuming you haven't already seen it, Haibane Renmei. It's very much not cyberpunk, and I'm not sure if dystopian is the correct word for the atmosphere. Maybe somber? The story takes place in walled in village and going beyond the wall is forbidden.
Replies: >>116477
>>116475
I somehow haven't seen Haibane Renmei yet, actually. Maybe I'll try it after I get back to G-Reco. I don't have my hopes high for that one, but I've been curious about it for a while and what I saw was at least distinct.
