Ah, so that's the problem. Premade decks are kinda shit, especially gigantic ones like vocab in any language.
I use anki by reading manga, checking in dictionary the words I don't know, then adding those to anki if I think they're worth learning. Sometimes later I re-read those part of manga I got the vocab from to see if I can understand everything without a dictionary. That way those words aren't just some random sounds and shapes in a vacuum, but actual words used in specific contexts.
To illustrate why premade decks are kinda trash, I'm at N3-N2 right now, but some deck made for N5 had a ton of bullshit words I never saw used anywhere, or obscure kanji usage that normally are just written with hiragana. But I only know that because I already read tons of things in jap, a newbie is gonna assume they're important and waste time on worthless memorization.
