It felt as if the show runners were pulling ideas out of a hat to get the plot set up. I remember thinking it started out fine, was delightfully retarded for most of it, but had a shitty ending.

I don't think anything went wrong as far as mistakes go, I think "let's keep going and see what happens" really describes their thought process while writing this shit. As well as designing, casting, directing, etc. And it worked, it made a great "meme anime" to get you shitposting about how bad and crazy it is. I rewatched it a while ago too and it was almost as hilarious as watching it as it aired. I've heard Cross Ange was the next shitpost anime, then Franxx, but I didn't watch either while they were airing. I tried some of Franxx and was put off by all the cuck shit in the first 2 episodes and some of the rage I saw in threads about it as it aired. I've thought about giving it another try though. I have Cross Ange ready to download now, but I haven't felt like watching it yet either.

Shoko should have stayed dead and buried in episode 1 and let MC actually get some painfully generic character development and start from there. Unfortunately, I get the feeling anons at the time were right in thinking she was some faggot exec's waifu, so she kept getting shoehorned everywhere, right into the lackluster ending as well.

Valvare's both problem is that the first 2 episodes area really good. Then it goes to complete shit. Destiny has the same issue where it's start is really strong so you keep watching hoping it will pick up.

I remember it, it was shit.
Also the ending was terrible.

Cross Ange was alright, she starts off really tsun and then gets dere except with everyone.  They had some interesting concepts they don't really pursue too far, but there's a good amount of revenge porn where jerks get what's coming to them.  

Better than Knights and Magic.
