So Disney announced this the other day. Its the identity of their "super secret" Project Luminous, which is actually called "The High Republic Era". Its nothing but a few books and comics made by the gayest bunch you ever did see and the majority are all terrible and woke writers. In essence its a crappier Old Republic knockoff that's only set 200 years before the prequels. Its basically a retelling of the Mandalorian Wars but it replaces the Mandalorians with "Space Vikings". The Vong are also supposedly going to be a part of this as are sith gods and the "Sith Empire".

But the real kicker is that shortly after this moronic announcement, Bob Iger officially stepped down as CEO of Disney which has many people talking about this High Republic shit being the first sign of the fall of Disney's Star Wars and possibly Disney as a whole which is still in massive debt caused by a lot of their recent acquisitions, the most notable being 20th Century Fox (which they have since renamed 20th Century).

So is this the end? Has SW finally taken its first step to truly being put out of its misery and being put to rest?
You know, I'm not entirely opposed to this. I will accept Disney Wars stuff as long as it's good and fits in with EU continuity (the latter might apply, but I'm highly doubtful about the former).

However, if this turns out to be the final nail in the coffin that brings an end to Disney Wars and possibly even the Mouse itself I'd be more beyond thrilled to see it fail.

>Has SW finally taken its first step to truly being put out of its misery and being put to rest?
Disney Wars, hopefully, will be the one to be laid to rest. By the Force, Disney Wars will be decanonized, and the Expanded Universe can take its rightful place once more. Maybe we can have true sequels based on Legends.

>Relatable characters
Why does everything have to be relatable these days? Star Wars was a fantasy escapist film, what's relatable to anyone about going from a desert farmer to a magical space wizard that toppled an empire? What's relatable about going from a literal slave to one of the most feared dark space wizards in the entire galaxy?
>Not pro-war
Do they have to remind themselves of such a basic pillar of Star Wars? But of course this is going to be mis-interpreted by the retards that work there and the whole message will be mangled by the time it reaches the audience.
>No single (main) character
What is this bullshit? Both trilogies had a clear main character but with many side characters too. Are the writers aware that you can still develop a character even if they aren't a main character? Leia and Han weren't the main characters but had plenty of character development.
>University
Ah yes, when I think Star Wars I think of space university and how the evil empire introduced higher tuition fees and oppressed innocent aliens from obtaining degrees and advancing up the social hierarchy. Take that misogynists!
>Dinosaurs!
>!
I'm at a loss for words
>Arthurian legends
The only sensible piece written on the board but no doubt Guinevere in this retooling will kick the Green Knights ass
>Rival houses
In theory it could be interesting but no doubt intended to be Harry Potter-tier rival houses with each house having a specific colour scheme and personality trait all while the obligatory whiter-than-white house fights the evil-for-no-real-reason house
>Chaos agents
Sounds like some shit that belongs in a bad fanfiction or some tumblr fandom. I dread to see what this is.

>So is this the end? Has SW finally taken its first step to truly being put out of its misery and being put to rest?
I can only hope. Just as I was starting to get back into Star Wars the mouse took over and fucked everything over, so I can only hope that it burns so I can at least have my fond childhood memories of Star Wars intact.

considering who some of the writers are its gonna be a shit show.

Considering they've never seen the films, and considering their output to date, I'm surprised they have that much down.

Are they fucking high or something? This is supposed to be set about 200 years before the prequels, which according to the movies was a relatively peaceful time where the Sith threat was practically nonexistent

Honestly I think it's a small miracle they even know what the Sith are.

Um... why are you mansplaining to these creative and beautiful women? They know more about Star Wars than you ever will, sweetie.
At this rate I am worried about Disney creating a crap hole that will engulf the universe.

Episode CDXX
THE RISE OF WEEDSMOKER

It is a dank time for the Republic. After the Ruusan Reformation, there was some Sith dude called, like, Darth Bong or something like that? He's sort of this guy who was like kind of running this long plot to take over the Republic by infiltration over hundreds of years or something that just makes you go, woah this guy is on another level, bro. Man, I'm so karking high right now. Did you know the Alderaanians built all their buildings and starships out of hemp?

I could seriously go for some chips. I could just eat the whole bag of chips and then hehehehehehehehehe. Anyway, you want to go listen to The Dark Side of the Space Station by Pink Droid? It's like the best stoner album ever. Then we can go to the Jedi Temple and join the protest to legalize weed. It'll be rad.

At the last protest a talking pot leaf came out of the Temple and said weed was the lowest arrest priority for the Jedi. He must have been super high because he said all his sentences backwards. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was cool with weed. Must be because of those teachings about spiritual harmony and mystic timecubes from the angels of Iego. That's deep, man. The supreme vibing of our impression will reverberate through the cosmos and stuff...

I know how to fix it! Let's put in a black weed dealer who leads Smoke City, a floating city built of hemp where pot is the main export and everybody is a stoner! That ought to be enough diversity. But just in case, let's have his assistant be an intersex gay Mexican with gaudy earrings and a yarmulke.

One of the primary issues with hivemind hugboxes like the boards of the Webring is that anything even remotely appearing to be an unorthodox opinion gets you shit for it. One need only lurk reddit (r/civ is pretty bad) for a time to recognize these similarities.

>sage
There's nothing unorthodox about not encouraging support for Disney. They fucked up SW royally beyond all repair. To allow it to be even lightly praised despite their actions is like giving the landlord who killed your dog a compliment for putting a lawn gnome in your yard that you didn't even want. I know some of you have an intense desire to consume product or are so desperate for anything that even a polished turd looks decent, but just think for two seconds and weigh in all that's happened these last 10 years under Disney and how this shit does nothing to undo their mistakes, just add to them. Only redeemable thing for these retards is to restart the continuity again, but even that's likely to get fucked.

>>2695
correct. Disney Wars is a radioactive shitshow, a mindless, plagiarized mess that makes a mockery of Star Wars and only contributes cultural marxist propaganda. you might have occasional decent content, but this is heavily outweighed by all the sludge. Disney canon should be totally forsaken and forbidden. the most I'd allow is minor borrowings within strict limits, such as the banner of Vader without his mask taken from that comic.
>>2695
The sage was for my off-topic post.
Out of all the badguys to use for this era why not use the Trade Federation or pirates? They control the outer rim and it lines up with the prequels.
>>2691
The shit you get for your "unorthodox opinions" is probably for posting that's subversive with respect to board culture and doesn't have anything to do with going against the "hivemind hugbox."

Yes, but it's even worse because they only decided to set it a mere two centuries before the Phantom Menace while also including Sith and not-Vong, contradicting the film which said the Sith weren't seen in 1,000 years.
Replies: >>2805
So when are we getting the first pile of crap from this era so we can roast it?

>>2779
I guess you could theoretically do something with this, but you'd have to make it so whoever runs into the Sith is basically treated like Agent Mulder when he tries to tell people what happened. But they don't have enough talent to make it work. I bet this board could do a better job than whatever they put out.

Hey, remember when a genocidal cult lead the Republic (and I'm not talking about the Jedi)? Remember that shit? Sure would be cool to see something original like that instead of "Empire versus Republic" fucking AGAIN. I'M SO FUCKING SICK AND TIRED OF EMPIRE VS REPUBLIC.

In the 200 ABY thread on the old board, we had some discussion about making a story with many factions instead of the usual Republic vs CIS, Rebels vs Empire stuff. Nothing ever came of that because the 200 ABY guy never came back, but it's still something I'd like to see. I keep hoping he'll eventually show up again in spite of myself. But there are still lots of underused factions even without resorting to a new era.

Even NJO and Legacy were a fair departure from the usual cycle.
