Post cool robot designs here. After all, this is an aesthetics-centered project.

If you can, post character name and franchise.

A potentially fun route for simple and dirt cheap waifu is to go 2.5D. By using sliding and rotating layers, you can produce a cute&light waifu. Laminating cardstock produces a durable, cleanable, low friction that can look like anything. For inspiration, look at this Gawr Gura. Imagine how her arms could be made of segments that rotate about the shoulder and elbow. How her head could rotate about a hidden pin behind it. How her clothes could be printed onto cotton sheets. There's heaps of potential for a creative Anon to pioneer a new road for roboflatties!

Always cute to watch these performances. :^)

Wow, neat find.

<--->

* I think papercraft waifus are still a good idea in many ways. First & foremost is the cost (super low), ease of design & construction, ready access to materials, light weight, ...(and others I'm sure).
* The downsides are low strength, low durability (very fragile -- especially by moisture), not very comfy-feeling as a shell material *, ...(and again, probably others).

I think if its used conscientiously in relationship with other materials (wood, metal, plastic, etc.), then many of it's downsides can be at least partially-addressed, while still maintaining most of it's upsides. And its still a very-strong contender as the primary source material for production of extremely low-cost robowaifus for everyman around the world (a personal dream of mine. :^)

<--->

Regardless, I still maintain that its the best shell mockup material choice for robowaifu prototype designing (especially full-scale ones) bar none.
>tl;dr
1. design robowaifu prototype shells using paper => patch same robowaifu shell designs with paper => (lather, rinse, repeat),
2. transfer (geometrical) knowledge thus obtained to robowaifu shell production materials & manufacturing approaches.
Simple as.

---
* The primary exception here being literal silk paper. Its expensive, but it can be obtained.

Back in alogs, I had a discussion about the uncanny valley and realistic faces.

My idea was to have futuristic sunglasses to cover the eyes, as the eyes are the most noticeable as "dead". After all, eyes are the window into the soul. Plus, it adds a futuristic aesthetic.

Also, since then, I have found out about LED screen glasses

Here is the exact model
https://www.amazon.com/Leadleds-Customizable-Programmable-Animation-Halloween/dp/B08CZMFTLG/

However, I also saw this model on AliExpress, as well as the slightly different design you shared, the only difference I'm seeing is the slightly-less padding on the arms

A good lesson for the prototypers here, if you intend for your design to be replicated, make sure the third-party devices have multiple sellers, the more the better, so that if one goes down, your design isn't instantly impossible to build. Even then, you should have backup designs in case the exact model is not being sold anymore.
I learned that the hard way with a design in 2023, and with Galatea I have had it happen twice, once before Galatea v1 with the speaker, and recently with the Pleasure Unit, the latter because it had some other sellers, but not too many.
TL:DR, with third party devices in open source designs, make sure there are several sellers easily found, across multiple websites.

Yes, that's an excellent point GreerTech. I too have already abandoned a design for this exact reason (I was too foolish to realize this issue at the time I began the prototype).

Chobitsu, you should make a Yotsuba robot. Spherical head, basic body design. Very easy to model

She would be a wonderful choice, GreerTech, agreed. I had never considered that idea before. She would certainly be a surefire hit on the Internets as well (she was every Anon's 'little sister' at the height of her popularity)! :D

OTOH, IMO she's simply too tall to use as the first model. Hmm. Maybe she would be good choice between Sumomo-chan & Chii-chan, sizewise? I'll give that some thought Anon, thanks.

Meantime thanks for cute Yotsuba daughteru pics! Cheers. :^)

You're welcome :)

>IMO she's simply too tall to use as the first model.
How small is the robot? Yotsuba is already quite smol compared to an adult.

I would estimate off the cuff it should be about 3.5'-4' in height? so more than double Sumomo-chan in height, & ~3x her volume/mass.
Replies: >>609
>>608
That's a good goal. For reference, Galatea is 4'2", and she's a robo-wife.

>so more than double Sumomo-chan in height
That's an understatement, at 3.5', she would be 7 times the height of Sumomo-chan (6" according to the wiki)
Replies: >>616
>>609
>Galatea is 4'2", and she's a robo-wife.
Our intended follow-on for dear Sumomo-chan is (was?) meant to be a rendition of Chii-chan, who should be 145cm+ in height (so, 4' 9"+). So, that seems pretty similar to dear Galatea.

>That's an understatement
Oops. My apologies, I meant the realworld one coming to be, not the fictional one. So, 18"-24" -ish.
