I haven't completed it but it's a surprisingly enjoyable title. From a merely mechanical standpoint, it's honestly pretty good, however it doesn't really feel like an arcade racer nor does it feel too much like a kart racer. I don't think it really knows what it wants to be, the closest game I can compare it to would be Blur.
There's plenty of activities you can complete around each of the several maps, most of them are challenging enough but nothing too grueling at first glance, at least early on. Racing is actually surprisingly challenging and rival AI is always at your toes, pretty much forcing you to rely on items in many cases.
Vehicle building would be great if it wasn't littered with micro-transactions and dependent on an online connection to even get some kits. Story wise, it follows all the same cues from the post Lego Movie era and its surprisingly funny and even witty.

I think so as well, not that I particularly prefer one to the other too much but 2 definitely has more meat on its bones, 1 is a charming title on its own right but a lot of the praise is nostalgia based and unlike say, Rock Raiders, it doesn't hold up as well as other classic Lego titles.
